CAL FIRE Crews Tackle Scrap Metal Yard Fire, Again

Sept. 16, 2024
This was the second fire at the Durham scrap yard in three months, CAL FIRE officers said.

Firefighters battled a fire at Chico Scrap Metal  Saturday.

CAL FIRE crews found heavy fire showing from a large scrap pile. No structures were involved.

Battalion Chief Jordan Hale told Action News Now that this was the second fire at the yard in three months.

Kim Scott, co-owner of the scrap yard,  said workers examine loads as they arrive to make sure nothing is burning or could easily ignite. But, sometimes things are missed.

The cause remains under investigation.
